  • Is that a mermaid I see?

Nah, just my daughter, Elizabeth, appearing to be swimming in the middle of the sea, but actual just a few metres off the shore on Didjo Island, off the coast of Leyte, the Philippines.

This was taken using an Olympus Mju Tough 8010 camera, which is water resistant to 10 metres, so ideal for snaps in the pool or on the beach and in the water

This was late in the day and the sun was setting, and I enhanced the rather low key mood by using post crop vignetting in Lightroom 3 to darken the corners.

Nice job Ian, I like it. It really is difficult to comprehend how Elizabeth is not in the water, so a great illusion. The post crop vignetting really works here too, good to see you have discovered some of the really good stuff in LR3

I'd guess she was probably 20 feet off the shore line, and I was probably 6 foot off the beach, sat down in about 3 feet of water. The beach only drops gradually for some way. Elizabeth is probably standing where she was there. A little bit further out it does drop away more steeply.

Here's a closer shot from another part of the island:

This is heavily processed, so sorry about the image quality!

Ultimately a very pleasing result though, and definitely one for the family album

Cool shots, cool camera. I particularly like the underwater shot.
