Crossing the Andes to the Atacama Dessert

I have just returned from a tremendous trip that took place crossing the Andes in the north of Argentina to the Chilean Atacama desert, heading to Copiapo, the city where the miners rescue took place. I will continue uploading some more pictures as to share with you my deep emotions created by this unique place on earth. Mountains in this region are full of minerals, surrounded by salty lakes and above 6000 meters. The San Francisco Pass is at 4.700 meters. The road is very good in both countries. Hope you like them.

The colours in #2 look surreal. What caused them?

Hi Peter, The colours are real. All where raw images and they have been edited in PS CS4 just to avoid atmospheric fog and increase a little bit the sat and luminosity. I enclose the original low resol jpeg as to see the colors. Best regards, Horacio

Thanks for your reply Horacio. Could it be iron oxide or sandstone deposits I wonder?

I'm so glad you made the trip because these are all amazing pictures!

The Mineral Mountains are breathtaking with all those colours. The Chilean Andes and that road show the magnitude and scale!

How far is it from your home?

You surely didn't drive there and back yourself did you?

Hi Pol, I made the approach from Buenos Aires to San Juan. in the Argentinian Andes, by plane (800km) and then conitinued by car. We crossed to Chile by the San Francisco pass at 4.700mts. It was a 4000 Km trip in ten days. Amazing places to visit Regards, H

Thanks for that. I had a feeling you'd have beeen driving at least part of the trip. It must have been wonderful, mile after mile of breathtaking landscape. A trip of a lifetime and no doubt you got many very unique shots.

I'm envious too.
