  • The Oysterbeds Wildlife Site - Common Tern Story

I have at last created a picture story of the Common Tern on my website. It was a lot of work and perhaps too much for me to do a normal post here.
If you would prefer I shall post it in full here.
As compensation, here are a couple of additional images, not included in the story.

These images are of the last clutch of Tern chicks which hatched in AUGUST 2010 and left the harbour in September. Happily, both chicks survived to migrate.

    Hope you enjoy these.

PS: My Black-headed Gull Story, posted here as a first, inspired me to create that story line too on my website. Thanks for all your support on that posting.
    Kind regards

These birds shift like the wind and keeping them in frame is a real issue. Fortunately, I have observed them for some time and can often predict what will happen.
      Kind regards

I agree, Peter. They are fast.
I tried, with little success to capture some in flight shots, of them at Pagham, earlier this year.
I also agree that observing them to gain some knowledge is beneficial in getting good shots.

Another wonderful story board. I listened to their call (RSPB site) as I looked at your story.

Lovely photos and lots of useful and fascinating facts, thanks.

Thank you Pol I am glad you liked it. I hope you did not mind me asking members to see it on my website rather than directly on here. It would have taken a long time to construct the forum post.
            Kind regards

I didn't mind in the slightest! I'm sure nobody else would either ... and I think it would be their loss if they didn't go over to have a look.

I really am just the part-time spam-blaster - so my opinions aren't especially important anyway.

But I did enjoy looking at the story - as did my husband.

Thank you Pol. This forum can claim the credit for me creating these story boards on my site. It was the response I received that encouraged me to invest the time and effort.
                Kind regards

I just feel with hindsight that it would have been better to post them directly on here I was thinking of the work involved though.
                    Kind regards

There's no reason why you can't link them from your gallery on FTU or e-systems gallery. Some people here also link directly from their pbase albums, or other gallery hosting sites.

Granted it's better if all the images were here in the DPN gallery, that's the ideal - but there are times when it might be easier to link the images from your gallery elsewhere rather than not post the story board at all. I can see why it would've been a huge task to repeat all the images and upload them in DPN for this particular story board.

Some of Ian's pics are linked from FTU. Josh Bear sometimes links from Pbase. Others have sometimes linked from SmugMug.

Just try to ensure the images are left in place long-term - at least until the thread in here is well down the list and no longer likely to be active.

That's my own take on the situation anyway.

Thanks Pol. I realise that the links have to be maintained and that is MY responsibility. Even if I move images between galleries the link is maintained as has proved to be the case where I have linked to another forum from a temporary gallery, moved the image and the link still reaches the image in the new gallery. I guess the website designer hosting my site has thought this through. The only thing I must not do is delete the image.
                        Kind regards
