  • Surprising little compact.

A couple of months ago or so I decided to purchase a small compact camera that would slip into my jacket pocket easily, which would me to always have a camera at my disposal when out on my morning exercise walks around the block and so not miss any opportunities that might arise. Well I bought the Panasonic DMC-TZ7 after researching it on the internet and seeing some of the excellent results other users were producing with it. So I thought it was about time to show one or two shots from it on this forum :-

This was taken this morning using the 3X zoom facility of the camera with the camera tripod mounted.

Yuck at the spider but that's a neat shot of the church.

I can't pretend to be familiar with the Panasonic TZ7 but I have to say I've often been seriously impressed by some of the shots I've seen from small 'pocket' compacts. You can have a lot of fum with that and be confident of a decent print

I have the Leica C-Lux 2 which goes everywhere with me. It's so tiny is goes into a pocket - or I sometimes have it around my neck in a small pouch alongside the K20D dSLR.

A decent compact is a must in my humble opinion - always ready to grab a shot when it would probably be missed if you needed to get the big camera ready. Several of my gallery 'street' shots are off the tiny Leica, some of them grabbed through the windscreen whilst on the move. I love my little Leica (complete with its red spot and leather case).

Keep clicking and enjoy it, Dennis.

Pol - Glad you liked the pictures(well at least the Chapel) !! Here are two more that took this August at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich were we took my sister who was visiting from Australia. We also took her to Edinburgh to see the Military Tattoo which she has always wanted to see. I managed to get quite a few fairly reasonable pics of the event with the compact camera under very difficult conditions.

Full view of the Naval Chapel.

Your full view of the Navel Chapel is a cracker Dennis. Clarity is excellent and hard to believe it came from a tiny compact.

Yay - that view of the Naval Chapel is fatastic - a belter! It truly demonstrates what can be achieved with a small compact. Nice shot of the Dining Hall too.

Another advantage of a small compact is that you can often grab shots in various places where an SLR might be too conspicuous.

Have to agree they are fantastic cameras, my wife has just got the TZ8 and my cousin has the TZ65.

I have mainly used the TZ8 and it's great for me to borrow when I don't have my DSLRs with me. I like the fact that I can zoom whilst recording video too, what good quality the video is and the mic picks up very well.

I had a day in Borth last weekend to take some seascapes, but during the evening and into the small hours my cousin and me had a fire on the beach and took some long exposures where we painted with light. The TZ65 really performed well and we got some interesting shots with the fire glow lighting us up.

I was also amazed how a few beers and a camp fire brings out the creative side
