  • Washing Day

Been going through some holiday shots today and rather liked this one taken in Rovinj (Istria, Croatia) I only took my Oly E-P1 and Ian had lent me a mft 14-150 lens so I used that for this one. Any comments welcome

    Made me laugh!
These buildings really are in need of repair.
But they do have air con!

I like architecture and unusual or badly maintained buildings.
    They make good, interesting photos.

    Nice shot, Stephen

Thanks Garry, I know what you mean. I love this sort of place, its a photographers paradise. What we see here is I suspect the back of the house, the other side faces the street. I have a few of that too, maybe I'll dig one out.

Very nice, wonderful colours and composition. I just keep looking at it and wonder what life is like there when a storm is raging and the waves hit the house.
        Best regards, Ad.

Thanks Ad, the same thoughts had occurred to me. All I could think was that the lower floor is not used for living in, and as this is a small corner of the Adriatic, it may not get the worst of the storms

Blimey ... and to think I've been complaining about how awkward it was for me to get down our back step to reach the clothes line! Fascinating picture though. Well worth risking a 'dunk in the drink' to get it.

How did you get around the back of the houses? Were you in a boat or maybe the that rocky path goes round the corner? You must surely have been right on the edge?

Nothing so daring Pol. A long lens from the jetty did the job
This shot shows the old town on a small peninsula

My shot was taken roughly from this shot

Hey that's neat! So would that be from Ian's 14-150 at full stretch - the equivalent of 300mm on the E-P1?

I'd love to have a Pentax microsystem camera - summick that would take my pancakes and one or two of my other lighter lenses. I wish they'd design and release one. But I'm not holding my breath.

Yes I used that lens Pol though the exif tells me it was at 134mm equiv.

These micro system cameras are really great if you want something smaller and lighter. For me it has kind of negated the need to have a conventional compact anymore.

Now me I wonder what states the washing is in after being buffeted up against those walls for a few hours

I was thinking of an ep1 to replace my tz5 but with a lens on(apart from the pancake) its not very compact Why I wonder when the sensor is so small do you need such a big lens

The sensor is a 4/3rds sensor, the same as in the Olympus E series dSLR range. Its massively larger than the one in the tz5, and as a result has the potential to produce better quality images. Many of the lenses do retract considerably when not in use, but it must be said not as much as regular compacts. Its a case of making compromises for quality, you pays yer money and takes yer choice

Just off the top of my head here - but doesn't the Samsung NX100 have a larger sensor than the 4/3 microsystems?

Have a look at one of these, Ash. It might suit your needs.

Page2 of the article compares the Samsung to the Olys and Lumix.

Coming late to the party as usual - looking back over the posts since my last visit. 99 in a week?!

I really like this - as everyone else, this reminds me of holidays. Must say I'm extremely impressed that the shot was a crop of the larger shot? (unless I've misunderstood). If it is, it's of fantastic quality.

Thanks Caz, just to clarify though, this is not a crop but the full image out of the camera. However the lens used was a 14-150 which in 35mm terms gives 300mm at the long end or a 2x crop factor
