  • The local fete

Taken the week before last at our local fete. I live in a very small village in South Northamptonshire and there are the same band of helpers every year. I managed to get out of serving tea this time and was allowed to wander round with my camera to capture the day for the local monthly freesheet.

I said to Graham that I'd taken a couple of fox pictures lately. Not, sadly, in her natural habitat but Willow is now too tame to be released after being hand-reared from a very young age. She plays with the family cats, and sleeps with the dogs.

The next will be submitted to the village news as it's a shot of a well-loved and popular local figure who has an amazing knowledge of traditional crafts. Here he's making corn flowers but in the caravan behind him he had some absolutely fantastic corn dollies, some of which he'd made and some he'd brought back from his recent cultural trip to the Ukraine.

The next two won't be submitted to the village news and are just for the petrolheads on here - I've put the explanation first, as I've got absolutely no idea!

And finally, the motor itself - the driver did disgrace himself on leaving the fete when he was encouraged to spin the wheels until they smoked, releasing some truly noxious vapours which really upset the gentleman with the owl display:

      Agreed.

      Lovely colour.

Anne and I were out taking pix of the late butterflies today in woodland and keeping an eye out for a fox. So I'm rather envious of the one above, especially as she looks so friendly.

The fox one is fantastic. Not sure if I like the man working in b&w though. Can we see the colour version please?

Thank you for your kind comments.

The fox is beautiful, very friendly and is used to people and other animals. However, she's not taken for walks and my friend was carrying her at the fete where she attracted a lot of attention. My friend often carries Willow with her on her motorised scooter.

I posted the black and white version of my friend the craftsman because that's the one that's going in the local village news and because I wasn't totally happy with the shadows caused by his hat even after editing for shadows and highlights (the sign was totally washed out) but since it's been requested, here's the colour version - unfortunately, you can't see his signature brightly coloured braces!

Thank you Carol. Actually warming to the b&w one now I have seen the colour version! Have you had anything printed in the village news before?

See - I said I didn't think the colour version worked!

I suppose I'm one of the regular photographers for the village news - if I'm at an event I'm often asked if I've got my camera with me.. it occasionally works that I sell a couple of images after that.

I inherited being the "official photographer" for the local woman's group (we seceded from the WI, too expensive and too many rules and regulations) on our trips and talks.

I'll be sending these over to Kev (who's also the editor of the village news) today - but I bet he won't put them in

I'll be sending the black and white version of this, because the village news doesn't often run to colour..

Love the pic of the little fox! It would be really nice if you could post some pics of the Harris dancing if you have any

Unfortunately I haven't got any good recent ones - I did take a couple this year but they're not very good at all. The local team only performs in the village a couple of times a year, the rest of the time they're on the road.

And the reason I took so few this year is because I'd been asked to video the Mummers play which just precedes the morris dancing which happens every Boxing Day outside our local village pub. So here's a link to a very short video of the morris team (you'll notice it's mixed): http://youtu.be/ISkoYe4Eh28. Next to that there's the longer video of the mummers play.

I am glad you got away from the tea to have the opportunity to take these splendid images.

Each one presents the topic it represents so well. Thanks for sharing.
                    Kind regards
