Re: Not my usual subject matter.....

    Stephen,

I've never done anything like Bear's done here but would a large diffuser be of any help in such circumstancers ... assuming you had someone available to assist with it.

I mean - maybe a diffuser angled to help with the very bright sun, to take off some of the glare?

Perhaps you mean something like a Lastolite reflector, or there is one called a California sunbounce. I suppose they could be a great help and are often better than using fill in flash. I think though that they wouldn't be as good for groups such as this one.

Yes, that's the sort of thing I meant.

I've sometimes seen them being used when there's been a team working on location on the marshes. Sometimes they use smaller ones with assistants holding them in position - other times I've noticed enormous jobbies on stands.

Here's a link showing something similar to the big ones I occasionally spotted.

I like 2 and 4. I think you handled the whites well much better then I did a few weeks ago. I can see where Stephen is coming from with his comments and I see so many of the same sort of mistakes in my own photos. Still a very good set of photos that I am sure they are very happy with.

              Thanks Peter.

Just in case people think that I am off licking my wounds (as we bears are wont to do), smarting from the sting of criticism, I should say that Stephen's comments did not offend me in the slightest. I asked for criticism and Stephen was kind enough to give me the benefit of his experience. I don't agree with him completely but I do concur, in general, with his observations. Thank you Stephen.

Nice pictures there, thanks for posting them up.

I love the 2nd picture but I feel it is too 'bright', would like to see it toned down a bit.
