  • French panos

After seeing Josh's Venice pano, I realised I'd got two that I hadn't posted yet.

The first is from that lovely tourist trap, Honfleur:

I've been many times, but always love going there.

The second may not be so well known - Falaise in Baisse-Normandie. It used to be a natural place to stop whilst driving down further south - just over an hour out of Caen off the ferry. I used to see this view coming down the hill, and have tried to capture it several times. Since then, I've returned often - my daughter actually worked in the tourist office there for a couple of summers, so I know a reasonable bit about the history of the place! This pano shows the remains of the old town walls, which are far prettier than Falaise castle itself.

Sorry, I don't seem to have got the hang of posting panos on here!

Thanks for the comment Josh. Unfortunately I can't seem to size them right to appear in a reasonable size in the forum, so the flickr link is:

Taken on the rue des Maisons Blanches looking back towards Falaise old Town. The Porte des Cordeliers is mid-left. Viewed large, the fishermen and their families are visible. Warning - this IS a very large file! I also took an 11-shot pano, but that cut out too much of the lake. Falaise castle is behind the darker trees mid-right. I've been there, but it's not very picturesque although the history is interesting. This is the birthplace of Guillaume de Bâtard, the illegitimate son of the Duke of Normandy who was brought up by the servants before being admitted into the household and, eventually, going on to to win the odd battle..... Although I think I might have cracked it?

Enjoyed your French series on Flickr Caz, it brought back memories of when I worked in France for a month back in the 90's doing photography for a holiday company. I can remember taking a brilliant night shot of the harbour in Honfleur, but from the other end to yours. I can also remember visiting Tours and the Loire region, a wonderful area. It was all very rushed for me though as we had to keep a tight schedule moving from one place to another and finding hotels on our list to photograph

Even if it was rushed, that's the kind of job that I'd enjoy! I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Tours, a region I hadn't visited before - last year my son lived just outside Blois, so I spent my holiday slightly further south. Looking forward to hopefully paying a visit to my daughter later in the year - haven't been to Strasbourg for a while .

I did take one of the harbour at Honfleur from the other end, but wasn't sure whether it was really good enough to make public. Until my son gets my website up and running I'm still using flickr as one of my back-ups so a LOT of my images are either friends/family only or private.

However, after seeing your shot of the church at Heptonstall the other night, I had a look at the Topaz plug-in you mentioned and bit the bullet.

This is my revisiting of Honfleur harbour:

I'm obviously still learning to use this tool, but find it great fun. However, I think I've overcooked this one somewhat - I wasn't really aiming for an HDR effect.

Nevertheless it does bring out much more detail and texture. Personally I like it though I know some are not as keen. The thing is though that the topaz plugin filters are infinitely adjustable and once you get the hang of what does what there will be no stopping you

Your 10 shot pano of Honfleur is terrific and the colours are so good.

Your Canon and you did more than well.
