  • Above the Clouds

We live on the top of a mountain. The views are amazing and sometimes we become a little too used to the beauty of our surroundings. Then, along comes something to remind us. This was the view that I awoke to this morning. Taken from the balcony out side my bedroom door at the front of the house looking down the valley towards the coast. usually we can see the Med, the coast and Malaga town. Today everything below about 600m was covered in thick cloud while we enjoyed glorious sunshine. In the foreground is Yunquera, the town nearest us.

Here's another one, taken at the same time, slightly different view, bit of lens flare for dramatic effect.

                Re: Above the Clouds

Julia - it truly is, we are quite lucky. The views we have from anywhere around the house are quite sensational, of course, they change according to the weather. In the winter we can often see the storms coming as they roll in off the sea and in summer on a clear day, we can see the cranes unloading ships in Malaga port, som 45 miles away, with the naked eye. This type of view, however, is rare. I am not sure what causes it, I am sure someone will explain the weather conditions that are responsible, but to be in bright sunshine, looking down on the top of the clouds is quite special.

Fantastic scene How high up are you there?

I guess the altitude helps during the hot summer months!

                    Re: Above the Clouds

Ian, the house is at roughly 950m - just over 3000 ft which really means we are on top of a mountain. The town in the pictures is at about 650m. There is a noticeable difference in temperatures between the coast and the town (usually 4-5 deg) and the town and our house (3-4 deg). This does make a difference but we still frequently suffer 40+ deg tempertures in the summer. What makes out house special in the summer is the wind. We almost always have a nice pleasant breeze that really cools the place down. The house is really on the top of the mountain. It is built at the summit so there is no barrier to the wind in any direction. We pay for this, of course, in the winter when nightime temperatures often drop to -10 deg and the wind chill can be horrendous. other problems we get come from the 50 deg temperature range. This plays havoc with plastics and paint work but this is a small price to pay for the incredible beauty of the place.
