  • Tree roots

I was doing something in Lightroom 3 today and came across Plugin Manager in the File menu. After exploring this I discovered that LR3 had recognised some plugins on my system by OnOne software. However not all plugins seem to show here.

This photo was processed initially with a plugin filter called Topaz Adjust its not unlike some of the stuff in the Optikverve labs plugin but on steroids. However it is accessed via the Photo > Edit in command, and by using both pieces of software via LR3 ended up with what you see.

Frankly it opens up all sorts of new potential and there are literally hundreds of frames in the PhotoFrame plugin, and filters in Topaz available all usable directly through LR3.

Like this Stephen, love the way the border still has the pic behind it, It looks a little washed out on my monitor, maybe a slight drop in brightness and a boost with contrast could really bring the detail of those roots out.

Good composition here Stephen. The background is interesting; the little gate seem so out of scale. It looks too small to be so close to the tree or maybe it is not that close. So I began wondering if you placed this background in the picture. More than likely I am wrong here but it just made me curious.

Thanks Ash, though I'm thinking your monitor may be needing some adjustment I'm posting the original version and you can then see the effect of the Topaz filter. I think there is more perceived detail and contrast in the processed version. The filter seems to bring out more of the texture and detail of the tree and rock.

Hi Tom, thanks for commenting. As you can see from the original version above, I have not changed the background.

            Re: Tree roots

I know this isn't the critique board but if I may observe?

It's verging on high key on my monitor and the histogram confirms this with the lump well to the right and of course it's high contrast too.

The distant background bokeh is on the busy side too.

But there is plenty of lovely natural detail to play with in there!

Well I distinctly see a serpent reaching downward with mouth open and can easily image that stone being an apple.
