  • Canalside Today (six pix)

I know we should have been unpacking, but the current warm and sunny spell demanded we didn't waste the day.

    Red Kite on high.

    Red Kite + Buzzard.
Red kite being warned off - I believe it is a buzzard that was harrying the kite; presumably it has a nest nearby.

    Roger - gentleman angler
This angler was a true gentleman, also very knowledgeable.

    Roger's Perch.

    Virgin Heron.
I thought the Heron was using the closeness of the track as a wind cooling machine.

    Hot Heron

I hope you enjoyed my day with me.

    E-3 coupled with 70-300 lens.

Nice series - yes I enjoyed sharing your day. That 3rd one of the angler and the canal is a beauty - very peaceful.

So what's the Heron laughing at in the last one? Maybe it was amused by your suggestion it was using the 'chuffabilly' slipstream as a cooling machine.

Hi Barr1e No 3 looks nice and peaceful, imagine that was shattered when that boat and the train went past? Nice set of pics though

            Many thanks.

On seeing the red kite flying towards us, my tummy gave a flutter as its course was directly to us and much lower than normal. Then out from nowhere a buzzard changed all that mmm, not best pleased as they both rose majestically to heights of nearby aircraft on their approach to Luton Airport.

It seems the day was saved by a friendly angler who knew much of the local surroundings and I'm pleased the picture of him found favour.

              Love the heron shots.
Amazing how it has adapted to the closeness of the train
