I did this shoot this evening from around 5.30 on wards all natural light. The full set can be seen on my flickr site if you want to have a look. We are talking about doing an indoor shoot this weekend so there may well be more of Kelly to come. I must say I am happy with this set and feel that if the indoor one does go ahead it will be even better.
Hi Peter, its amazing what a bit of late afternoon sun does to pictures of a pretty girl. For me the shots with the sun on her face are generally the best. I wonder if you have ever considered investing in a reflector? Something like a Lastolite could possibly help with bouncing sunlight back onto the model and filling in shadow areas. Alternatively you could try a low powered flash to see if that helps.
Be careful with shots like the ones where she is sat on the wall, the first one particularly looks a little strained in the body, as though she is not too comfortable, maybe its to do with the arms round her legs. The shot on the bridge needs a little more space top and bottom, what focal length did you use for this, I wonder if it was long enough. Lastly, on a side issue, I wish she didn't have the tattoos on her wrist
I am not going to mention each one, but the one on the wall, although I don't think that she looks too uncomfortable, I keep looking at her pointed shoes and I can't think of how she could naturally place her feet and sit as she is without the toes pointing upwards, other than for her to remove her shoes.
Stephen mentions a reflector. I have seen many professional shoots in Majorca - for magazines and mail order catalogues and the sun is always so bright, but there are usually two or three helpers running around the model reflecting the light from different angles.
Have to agree with Stephen about the tatoos - great pity.
I probably will like these pictures better than an indoor shoot, because they look so natural. I just love the setting.
I do have a reflector in fact I have two of those 5 in 1 types. It was just me and Kelly so I had no one to help wit it which I know would have been a god send. The one of her on the bridge was taken with a 50mm 1.8 at 1.8 and at 1/160 iso 100. I have add another one here with more head room sorry that was my crop . It was a nice evening light wise and I just did not want to use any flash at all. I did have the soft box with me but it was just to windy to use and like I said I just wanted to not use the flash alone. Tattoos you are lucky she has more trust me but you cannot see them.
Audrey I am happy with these and like you feel the natural light is very good with these. I am looking forward to the indoor shoot for a few reasons ie no wind to put up with and a few outfit changes .
