Re: Stephen and the hens
Well, I was given a bread maker for my 40th (I'll be 50 next year!) and it's probably averaged 2-3 loaves a week since then (I think that works out to around 1,100 in nine years) and the bread maker is still going strong!
For a change I decided to use the bread maker just to make the dough, and I baked in the oven, rustic country loaf style. I personally think it was slightly over-baked, but as it was consumed within 3 hours of haveing been baked, I think its freshness compensated.
I just used what we had in the cupboard, so it was about one third malted granary flour, one third wholemeal, and one third white.
We've probably only bought a few dozen loaves in total since we've had the bread maker
