  • Take one horse.........

One not very nice day gusting winds and cold rain. So we took our 4yo into the school..............once we decided I woulld not be riding we thought wed have fun, as you can see from shot 1 he was in the mood to play

So we deided to strip him down and let him play, the light was orrible and i was shooting between showers and gusts of wind, but they just about make the grade

You are so lucky to have such a great subject at your fingertips! My favourites are 3 and 6!

Thanks both, I'm still trying to get used to the Nikon and cant make my mind up about the quality of the lenses in the kit I have. Now my Olympus has gone Ill have to persevere with it, I dont think I would have got anything without the IS or the faster frame rate and an Extreme 3 card.
Like you say, this is a subject I can revisit many times in more favourable conditions when not only the light is better but so is the subject who will be coming into his full summer coat and weight wich this year should show his full potential.
These are a little soft in the focus and required some sharpening and I have lost some of the oomph out of the finished pictures, but practice makes perfect I guess! luckily my wife would likes a picture of her horse no matter how bad it seems!

          Re: Take one horse.........

I like the second from last where the horse is facing you - seems to be looking at you

A couple of observations: you're using Adobe RGB colour space and that is not ideal for viewing with most web browsers that aren't colour managed. Best to convert to sRGB before uploading.

The pictures are all on the dark side with my monitor, especially the dark tones (the horse's hair for example). If you are using RAW and Lightroom or PS, I feel you need to use the fill light slider to bring the left of the histogram more to the right.

Ian, thanks for the comments especially about the colour this might explain why I see such a difference between PS and IE8 display. Thought it was my old eye. On another note I'm sat in my local with a paper and a pint doing this on my Iphone........ Thumbs up for technology.

Another lovely set of shots - and you've given me some ideas, as I'm supposed to be doing a horse and rider shoot shortly.....
