  • Monofrogs...

Mucking about with couple of toggie chums by the pond, I got some 'different' (!) mono shots.

I liked Sarah's hand position in the first shot, so used it again in the second...

This little fellow I think has the best technical merits:

    And this is just pornography...

And this is how we suffer for our art (photos by Kristi):

You have to look very serious and thoughtful (I'm on the right, in need of a bit of hair-dye):

You can get a stereoscopic view with two cameras:

But bu**er it up completely by trying to do a 'commando crawl' over the lawn to sneak up on the frogs and then not being able to take a shot for laughing:

(I think Kristi nearly fell in the pond taking this shot)

Some really nice mono conversions there Andy, even though some suffer from excessive reflections. I wonder if a polariser would have helped in that respect, though you would have lost a stop or two no doubt. Thanks also for including the colour shots, its nice to see how you had to suffer

I think the polariser question was raised almost the immediate point we got them on the computer...

        Thanks, Stephen!

I like the ones on Sarah's hand and the third image of the first post best of all.

Is there a reason why you posted those as thumbnails Andy? Its just that clicking on them takes you away from the thread. I much prefer them enlarged in the body of the post

I tend to like to up them reasonably large and then the gallery view allows you to see the detail if you wish or smaller to see the overview. Posting them full size is too large. I could be cunning and embed the medium sized JPG... (something the 'My Pics' doesn't give you the option to do - you have to do it manually).

            I'll do that now...

Edit: that works - change the URL from ...thumbs... to ...medium... in the [img] [/img] embedding.

Brilliant, thanks for that, much better.
I must say I never normally use the MyPics link, preferring to Copy & Paste the link from under the photo in the gallery. However I can see there is a place for it. In this instance I'd just have used the link for the medium image.

I checked the Exif of one of the frog pics and it said ISO 1000 Is that correct?

Whoops, when I check again it's ISO 400 so I must be mistaken. Seems it was the Mausoleum shot

Yes - I was momentarily confused there - I thought I'd kept it on ISO 400 for the whole shoot! Going around Highgate was a lot darker!

I was quite pleased with these. I normally have the front wheel on the camera set to EV compensation, and I knocked it for the first two shots - well over exposed. It forced me down the route I took for post-processing. I had two shots, and the frog was nicest in one (shot #2) and Sarah's hand position was nicest in the other (shot #1) - so I merged the frog from #2 onto the hand of #1 to make the second image!

The 'trick' is to first remove the old frog. Snip roughly around the new frog, paste it in as a new layer over the image with the old frog removed. Do a rough adjustment for angle in the frog layer so it roughly lines up with the hand.

Turn off the layer with the hand, nibble away at the new frog layer to remove any extraneous black background. Now re-enable the hand layer and use the transform tool on the frog layer only with the distortion icon clicked to 'mould' the frog around the shape of the hand.
