I was sorting through some kite-surfing snapshots from maybe 3-4 weeks ago and was about to bin the rejects when I realised I'd captured Neptune on one of the shots.
Just been moving it up and down via the scroll bar and I like it better with the kiteholder at the bottom. i.e.bottom cropped to remove the calm water.
I like the position of the kite, shame the sky wasn't a bit more obliging.

Naah - it's just a snapshot I'd grabbed to test the aperture, distance,conditions etc.
It was one particular kite I'd been after, had been hoping to fill the frame with it (not that one)- but I was too far away, couldn't get any closer, the kite was blowing in the wrong direction and the sky wasn't good enough anyway. I just happened to spot 'Neptune' down in the corner when I was about to bin it - so I kept the file as 'Neptune-in-a-wet-suit' amused me.

A great grab shot, although it was a test shot, it could still be cropped/edited to produce a dramatic shot, I nearly missed "Neptune" in the right corner, that was a stroke of luck.
As this is not in the critique thread all I can say is WELL SPOTTED. Nearly didn't make it in to the frame.
I know, I hadn't even noticed him when I pressed the shutter - I just got lucky, eh
Incidentally, with reference to what you were saying in the other thread, about the stories in some photos. I was reminded of a "photo story" I particularly like and thought you might also enjoy. Charming little story imho.
I reckon it's a nice example of another genre .. ie shooting, assembling and presenting a sequence that tells the story AND capturing the series so that every individual frame is also holding the attention on its own strength.
I loved this series - each shot focused nicely for following the story ..... no thoughts of cloning, cropping and chopping, no second chances - had to get it right frame by frame. Shot with film, though he's recently gone digital.

Naah - my snapshot could never be made into anything worth keeping. As I said, I was simply testing out the conditions and kit I had with me to see what chances I might have of getting something along the lines of the image seen HERE
There were one or two large and colourful kites, but none anywhere near as spectacular as the one in the link (from DJN)
So I'm sure you'll agree I had no chance whatsoever by comparison.

They are just great Pol, what a lovely set of pictures. Oh and such a pretty girl. She reminds me of a little girl that stopped outside my shop one morning. I was so taken with her I invited her Dad to bring her in for a free studio shoot. Having her pictures in my shop window got me loads of work. BTW I like the link to the kite, Big or what!

I'm not 100% certain but I think it's his own little daughter, or certainly a relative or family friend. She's certainly a natural model and a little lady who seems to know what she wants and likes, eh.
He was an award winning photographer some years ago but they live in the outback now and I think he mainly just likes to maintain his interests and standards in Photography, though not working as a Pro now afaik.
As for the kite picture, form David Nightingale -- I love it! I'd love just seeing a kite like that'un. A chance to photograph one would be the icing on the cake.

Looking at your superb work on here, you should not beat ya self up trying to get a photo like that one in the link, in my opinion that is one very cleverly and proffessionaly photoshopped image, a superb image but photoshopped none the less "IMO"

He does indeed use Photoshop, also runs tutorials and workshops on photography and processing. However, the point about his kite photo is that the kite fills the frame in the first place and the wind is also in the right direction so the full glory of the colourful kite is seen.
I'll keep trying, though I've never yet seen such a wonderful kite.
