I can't say we visited Southend today to enjoy fish and chips, which I did
along with mushy peas
I used our drive there to see an old work chum. The excuse to visit the seaside was to experience one of the few sunny days we have had this year. 
Southend Pier is the longest in the world (currently under extensive refurbishment for the coming season) and if you click the link you will see the checkered history it has endured.
