It has drama and impact in bucketfuls, Stephen. Using the tripod also helps avoid wobbles when doing this kind of thing by hand, too.Originally posted by Stephen View PostSometimes its good to experiment and break some rules just to see what you get. With this shot the tripod head was rotated during the exposure

Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition No.53 "Breaking the Rules" - Results.
OK - here are the results of Salon Competition no. 53 - "Breaking the rules".
I loved all the images, and can't say it was easy picking a winner. There are some lovely images not in my top three, but I have decided on which are my favourites, and why.
In third place, is this absolutrely wonderful image from Jocelyn, I Know its got many of us rushing to photoshop to see how she did it, and whether we can replicate the effect. But its more than just a clever effect, the image is vibrant, and so evocative of place. Fantastic!

In second place is Stephen's photograph of the Manchester Wheel, with a rotating camera capturing the rotating wheel. I can only add my appreciation to those comments on the forum pointing out what an excellent photograph this is.

My first place, though, goes to this image by MIB2. For me, it evokes the spirit of the challenge I set. It breaks so many rules. It's a cliche to photograph yourself in the mirror, and technically its not a brilliant shot, BUT for me it is such an interesting image - it draws me in and seems to say so much about the man, a soldier and the man a photographer, A great self-portrait!

So, Congratulations to MIB2, and over to you for the next one!
Regards,
Neil
