  • Fortnightly Salon Competition No.53 "Breaking the Rules"

Thanks to Stephen for running the last competition, and giving me the opportunity to have a go at "curating" so soon after joining the forum. (Beginners luck).

The theme for this competition is "breaking the rules" and you can interpret that as you wish - In setting the theme, I was thinking of those photographs you sometimes see that shouldn't work technically as they break all the rules, but in fact the photographer has transcended rules and comes out the other side into excellence and creativity.

However, I'd be just as happy to see a photograph showing your own interpretation of the phrase - what does "breaking the rules" mean to you?

    Have fun, and good luck!

    Neil.

Closing date for this Salon is 8.00pm on Wednesday 26th November.

Here are the rules. Please take a moment to read them prior to shooting or uploading your submissions.

    1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/, they can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread. Please keep photos to max 800 pixel wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling.

    2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.

    3) Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else).

    4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.

    5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.

    6) The curator's decision is final.

    7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.

8.) If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.

    9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new Curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time.

    10) As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.

Just to get things started, here is a vastly over exposed image of a cat.

Great start! I like the surrealism of this, almost an inverse cheshire cat! (Most things there, apart from the smile)

I was trying to get a portrait of my daughter and suddenly she adopted this relaxed posture... So the result was this "bizarre-portrait"

By way of added interest, how many "Rules" can you spot broken in this image

I think the guy in the balaclava broke a few fashion rules -

Fashion rule #372 - when going for the terrorist/thug look, ALWAYS remove your tie.
