  • Fortnightly Salon Competition No. 46: MODERN ARCHITECTURE

Thank you Gina for running the last salon. You had a difficult job, with so many good portraits.

The theme for salon 46 is:

    MODERN ARCHITECTURE[

Before I knew that I would be choosing the subject for this salon, I posted two modern architectural photographs on the forum last night, which gave me the idea for the next forum. http://dpnow.com/forum2/showthread.php?t=6061

I know I was lucky to be in a place where there was such a lot to be photographed, but where I live in an old market/mining town, we have recently had quite a few modern well designed buildings erected and I am sure wherever you live or have visited, you will have come across them.

I hope the challenge wont pose too much of a problem for you and if you haven't any archived ... ... ... Get Out There With Your Cameras!

Closing date for this salon is Wednesday 13th August 12 noon BST

If you've never taken part in a salon before, why not take this challenge? - you could be holding a brand new 2GB Kingston Ultimate high-speed memory card in your hand for your efforts!

    Good luck everyone.

    Audrey

    THE RULES.

    1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/

The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread. Please keep photos to max 800 pixel wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling.

    2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.

    3) Entries should be " in line " within the thread ( not as links to an image held somewhere else, any external links or photos held anywhere other than the Galleries will be deleted.

    4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.

    5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.

    6) The curator's decisions is final.

    7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.

8 If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second place.

    9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time.

    10) As with all photos posted on DPNow,copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission

The centre of the museum was redeveloped in 2000 to become the Great Court, surrounding the original Reading Room.

I have struggled to decide which photo to enter for this Salon. I finally decided on this one, not necessarily because I think it the best....... it has some flaws photographically, its just that I particularly like the composition and way it contrasts the old traditional industrial architecture of Manchester with the new and pretty amazing Beetham Tower which rises like a Phoenix from Deansgate in the heart of Manchester. It was taken near to sunrise and I used LR2 with its Adjustment Brush and export as Smart Object function to get it how I wanted......well as near as I could

Congratulations Audrey well done on your win, this is my take on your choice of subject. One from the files taken last year during a visit to Liverpool, called "Dockland Regeneration" it features one of the many new buildings in the dockland area.....JIM
