Fortnightly Salon Competition No. 20 - The Dark Side
Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition No. 20 - The Dark Side
Hi,
I am delighted to have won the last competition. Thank you Josh for choosing my image. I really liked the second place getter myself. I am always astonished at the variety of images that are put in (and always have doubts about my own).
Anyway (with the help from Dianne) I have chosen the next subject. Have fun
In second place but really only just behind the winner was the photograph posted by Pol. It is so mysterious. The subject looks a little unhappy and dark. I want to know more about why the picture was taken and why the subject looked sad.
Good Salon. Congratulations to Trev too - super shot and a very well deserved winner!
Thank you Josh for the comments and for unexpectedly placing my image up there in the top three!
It's a self portrait actually and I set it up and posed specifically for this particular Salon. That's what my family refer to as my "stern, wither a daisy at 50 paces" expression. My "evil stare" that used to send out a warning to the kids to 'wotchit, or else!"
The 'shawl' over my head is a camouflage sniper's veil, occasionally used to conceal or protect the camera in bird or other wildlife photography.
It was just an experimental shot with natural light from a very large window, me facing the camera and holding a cable switch to get the shot .... and a fair amount of guesswork as to whether or not I was appropriately positioned in the frame.
Thanks for taking part. I love the variety you get in the Salons. Anyway here are the top three and the reasons why.
In first place with his picture Vunerable is Kiwi Trev.
I love the compostion and the muted colours. Photographs that make me ask questions are my fav. Here they are, who is the girl? Why is she at the end of the jetty? is she safe? This picture fits the salon really really well.
Congratulations.

and in third place is Pewidane. Don't ask my why because is is a mystery to me but I find this photograph intriging and I kept going back for another look.
Thanks to all who took part. Over to you Trev.
Excellent salon Josh!
Congratulations on a well deserved winning shot Trev!

Congrats to the winners - they were superlative images - imaginative, well thought through and professionally executed and thanks to Josh Bear for such an interesting topic.

Congratulations to the winner & runners up. Unfortunately I can't see Pewidane's picture. In the original post and in this message it just appears as the missing image marker.
I've been working too hard but decided I'd post an entry anyway. At the last minute, I took time out from work, found a suitable picture and then lost my internet connection for two days . I'm sure I would not have affected the outcome but for what its worth, here's what would have been my entry:

Vernon.
It's a very interesting shot, Vernon. Good detail of the fur and whiskers, interesting s'cat'tering of the lighting and the icing on the cake is that pink transparent nose.

I thought there was something wrong with what I was doing, as I couldn't see Peder's pic or entry either. I wasn't abvle to see the entry that took you back to person's gallery either! Congratulations to winner & runners up. I loved the shot of Lions Head etc taken from Table Mountain naturally! Some great shots! Just a tad disappointed I wasn't in time to get an entry of my own in, as have a couple of new shots from my vacation that would've fit the bill nicely! Oh well, maybe another salon on 'Lighting' will come up again some time!
