  • Salon 252-Interesting characters

Sorry this is done in a bit of a rush, got back from Brussels late last night and now getting ready to head off to Northumberland on Monday morning.

The next salon is "interesting characters", you know the chance people you come across while out and about or anywhere really.

Eg I met this fella while walking up the Regents canal.

Walk from Canonbury to Stratford by Andrew Peter Martin, on Flickr

    Here's what you do.

    1. All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/

They can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the salon thread. Please keep photos to a maximum of 1000 pixels wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling.

    2. As agreed previously, TWO entries maximum per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.

    3. Entries should be ‘in line’ within the thread (not as a link to an image held somewhere else).

    4. Comments on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.

    5. After the close, the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.

    6. The curator’s decision is final.

    7. The winner will be invited to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.

    8. If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that ‘honour’ to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.

    9. These rules are to be copied and pasted with the new theme by the curator at the top of the new salon thread with a finish date and time.

    10. As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.

Closing date Midnight, Sunday 4th on November.

    Good luck and have fun.

        Re: Salon 252-Interesting characters

On the 4th of July 2001, we were on our honeymoon in St. Andrews and my bride and I split up for the day. She was going to indulge herself in four hours of "power shopping" while I played the Old Course. As I was heading for the first tee I encountered this intriguing character. He offered some advice for playing the course but his Scottish Brogue was so thick that all I understood was "last two holes" (which I bogeyed for an 83). If you look closely at his belt buckle it says "James Dean - Rebel Legend" flanked by Confederate Flags. This was definitely a memorable character.

          My second effort.

In the winter I race on skis and snowboard. All three of these guys are regulars on the circuit and are colorful characters. The one on the left was on the US Ski Team in the sixties.

My second entry - I met lots of "interesting characters" this weekend!

Saturday, I was covering another two bands in Wolverton, Milton Keynes. I hadn't seen the first band before (Ten Foot Wizard), and they came on stage dressed as a fruit salad (2 pineapples, one strawberry and a water melon) but I didn't really get a portrait shot of them.

The second band I'd seen before, so knew what to expect. This is Dr Rabid Hell, lead vocalist with the band Evil Scarecrow. Hard rock, great fun - you always leave their gigs with a smile (and, in my case, deaf as I'd lost my earplugs and had to rely on foam ones)

Thank you for your entries, some right characters there.

My winner is Pat's second, just what I was looking for.

Thanks for the selection! It was a great topic and I liked all the submissions.

Sorry to take so long to respond. We're on the road again. I should have a new topic shortly.
