  • Challenge No 151 - Abstract Nature - RESULTS

some great entries to this salon, and i think 2 entries per person worked really well.
    so, without further ado.....

in 3rd place we have Gez's

initially, i had placed this outside of the top 3 until i viewed it at a smaller size (had to scroll around to see it in full)
at which point i got the full impact. is it a plant or a bristly, mohican sporting person throwing their hands to the sky? great capture
    with great use of backlighting.

in 2nd place, we have pop's peacock (?) feathers

i loved the fan of 'regular' feathers complimenting the geometry of the more usual 'show' feathers.

and in 1st place, and a clear winner for me, horacio's lake reflections

as soon as i saw this, i thought "wow!" and knew that it would take something extra special to knock it from the #1 spot
i loved the simplicity. i loved the geometry. i loved the contrast between the hard angled triangles and the flowing curves.
a great image and one that i'd love to have hanging on my wall (hint hint)

    honourable mentions....
i have to start with horacio, it would've been quite easy to have placed both of horacio's images in the first 2 positions - both
vying for top spot - as they sum up *exactly* what my take is on abstract. both images would make excellent fine art prints
and i'd be delighted to have them hanging at home (another unsubtle hint ;-)).

while on the subject of 2nd entries, i thought pop's 2nd shot was really strong. it left me not knowing if i was looking at a macro
or an aerial snowscape on a mahoosive scale.

audrey's frost on the car window narrowly missed out on 3rd place, as did kurt's jurassic coast shot and donald's bark. all excellent
    images, fitting the bill perfectly.

really enjoyed the power of 3 in andy's beech shot and the calmness in carol's shots.

thanks to all for entering, i really enjoyed having to pick the winners from this comp!

    over to you horacio.....

Thanks Dave for an excellent salon and a comprehensive commentary on the results. Congratulations to all the entrants too, there are some super abstracts.

I think that a commentary of the results like this adds greatly to the enjoyment and encourages us all to put in entries to the next salon.

        Well said.
