  • Transportation - Challenge 278

    • Challenge 278
    • Post up to 3 images in this thread. You can use the forum attachment system or link from an external website.
    • Any photos must be your own work.
    • Each salon is open for two weeks .
    • The salon curator then chooses three photos from three different contributors in order of his or her personal preference and the one deemed the best endows its owner with the job of curating the next salon, after choosing a new topic.
    • The salon curator doesn't compete but can post some examples, if necessary, to give some inspiration
    • * Salon closes midnight 7 October 2020
This could give you a broad range of choices.

Today is the 7th and we have a winner! Rodbender's first photo of the motorcycle and unconventional rider really caught my eye. His third picture jogged a memory. I owned a 1946 Cushman Husky scooter when I was 14. Here's my dad and brother on it in 1961

Thank You Pat for running the salon and selecting my image as winner. I will not however be able to host the next salon. Please pass this honor to your second choice. I will give my reasons for this in a post later. Re the last image I posted, it is a paratroopers folding motorcycle from world war two. I also had one which I purchased when I was an apprentice. It served me well getting me to work every day for a few years till I got a bigger and better means of transport.

More info below plus a normal push bike that folds.

Fascinating. I've never heard of it. Out of my nearly 2100 jumps, I logged 43 in the military and wore a vest containing helium bottles. I'd jump by helicopter at night in advance of a morning drop by the 82nd or 101st Airborne Divisions. I'd use the helium bottles to send up pilot balloons to gage the wind and select an exit point for the C 130s and C 141s.

I like all the entries but the runner up and host of the next Salon is Barr1e with his Ship's Lifeboat.
