  • DPNow Salon contest No.264 - Anything!

And the topic this time; free for all; Anything!

To get the Salon contest going again after its break while we upgraded the forum, I thought an open topic would be good. No excuses everyone

A quick reminder of the rules:
    • Post up to 3 images in this thread. You can use the forum attachment system or link from an external website.
    • Any photos must be your own work.
    • Each salon is open for two weeks and this one will close on Saturday, 8th February at midnight UK time (GMT).
    • The salon curator then chooses three photos from three different contributors in order of his or her personal preference and the one deemed the best endows its owner with the job of curating the next salon, after choosing a new topic.
    • The salon curator doesn't compete but can post some examples, if necessary, to give some inspiration.
    • Simple!

Make it so! (yes I wish Patrick Stewart's face was in focus rather than his hand but I still love this photo )

          You definitely need the latter!

What temperature are you seeing there (night and day if possible?)

It's been unseasonably warm lately but we're expecting on overnight low Thursday night of 1 degree Farenheit. (-17 Celsius)

              -17C? Ouch!

I think the coldest I have experienced here at home was -9 though I think it didn't go above freezing for several days.

That was at the end of 2010. The previous owner of our car forgot to tell us they had not put antifreeze in the engine coolant

I've picked three of my favourite images from last year - I shot a lot of music last year, and the full set editing hasn't yet finished (currently at the beginning of November and hoping to finish before the first professional gig of the year - and that's going to be absolutely huge for me).

I've always covered a range of music and widely ranging venues, from small pubs and clubs up to the smaller festivals, but I went a bit further this year.

The first one is my friend David, in a moment at his band's album release gig at Wolverhampton. The song was about a friend who'd been a big supporter of the band, and had recently died. I did ask his permission before adding that to the set.

The second was taken at my largest festival to date - Ramblin Man Fair in Maidstone, Kent. There's a story behind this set, too - Foreigner were one of the few bands to ask photographers at the festival to sign a contract. Whilst everyone was picking it up, I was reading mine through and then refusing to sign it (I've worked in law firms for over 20 years - ok, conveyancing, but you pick stuff up!) My friend and a photographer for another site, whose full time job is a solicitor, also read it and we persuaded the 30-40 photographers in the tent to boycott their set unless the contract was changed (basically, it was a rights grab). 10 minutes before the band were due to come on - empty photo pit. 5 minutes before the band were due on, they agreed to delete the offending clause. So I went in, and it's not often that you're lucky enough to get the lead singer of a band crouching down and singing straight into the camera.

My last one was probably the biggest gig to date, although I can't say that I enjoyed it! Death metal in all its forms is way off my radar, even if it's "symphonic". However, I can now say that I've shot at the Palladium. There was so much smoke that I didn't get many shots from the photopit during my 3 songs. However, I'd been lucky enough to be given a pass to shoot from the rear of the theatre.
