Re: Dpnow salon competition no 127 - yellow
This place is far from 'pretty dead', thank you GinaOriginally posted by Gina View PostI agree Audrey. this place is pretty dead now. When I first started posting my work here 4 or 5 years ago I loved the busy forum, everyone participated and it was my Mecca. It's just kind of dissolving into a few active members. Can we do something to revive it? Loving the Yellow x

. Audrey has a dozen really good entries not including mine.
It is fair to say that activity on the forum has dropped in recent years. One of the problems is that social media networks like Twitter and Facebook are massive competition for us. I see more of you on FB than on here. There is nothing wrong with that (I'm on Facebook a lot too) but for some it means that smaller specialist sites like us are no longer as obviously relevant any more. Naturally, I think this is an oversight. Social Media sites are easier to use and you can be connected to more people, but a forum can be still be a marvelous community in its own right, as our Olympus specialist site (Olympus UK E-System User Group - e-group.uk.net) shows; around 200 people log in daily and we get a couple of hundred new posts on good days there.
DPNow is a more general photography site and we are less camera brand focused than others. Maybe we should focus more on the hardware and have brand-specific discussions?
Pol, Pops, John Perriment and myself as moderators are here to welcome and help new members all the time. We work hard to keep the spammers away and there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here. We have marvelous talent in the form of Horacio, Patrick, Peter, Devilgas, OlyPaul, just to name a few. Picture of the Day is going strong.
We have had several new members sign up recently and forum activity is up according to the stats, so we're hanging in there.
How can you help - pop in a bit more often if you can, invite your friends, spread the word.

Re: Dpnow salon competition no 127 - yellow
So sorry Folks, I hadn't realised the cut off time had gone. I was just checking when the salon should end and it had ended. How time flies.
Well I'm glad I chose 'Yellow', because it has brought a few of you out of the woodwork and made for a very jolly salon.
I shortlisted 5 and all were good, but when viewed altogether, the three I have chosen had the most yellow.
(Not a very scientific way to select a winner I hear you say).
In third place we have John Perriment with his rusty lock,
In second place we have Horatio, I just love the lines of this image, but in
First place we have Geoff's clever image of the droplets. I know this type of image takes a fair bit of technical ability and trial and error and it was Yellow, too.
Mentions to Pat for kicking off the Salon - I really loved this image and Graham for the portrait of the young lady.
Pol's smiley did exactly that - made me smile.
Thanks Ian for making the effort. Nice cars. Glad I didn't nag you to enter now. I thought about it and also about giving Julia a nudge.
Anyway, thanks to all of you for making the effort and giving each other and me a run for our money.
Congratulations Geoff and over to you.

Great choices and a great theme! I'd like to see another color featured again in a future salon. This really brought out some nice entries. If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room.

Re: Dpnow salon competition no 127 - yellow
Thanks Audrey for picking my image, quite a suprise as there were some good photos that were more yellow than mine
I will be back later with a new subject for the next salon, I will try to think of a subject that will allow anyone to enter to encourage lots of entries.
Regards,
Geoff.

I don't think there have been any other colour themes - none I recall anyway.

No 83 was Red back in 2010.
