  • DP Now Salon Competition No 118 'Mountain(s)''

The challenge this time is 'Mountain(s)'. Landscape will have to be a feature, but you can include mountain roads, trains, goats, climbers or just the mountains. Lets have lots of pictures please.

We'll be finishing up end Midnight 1 February, 2012.

    The rules, as usual:

    1. All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/
They can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the salon tread. Please keep photos to a maximum of 800 pixel wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling.
    2. One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.
    3. Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as a links to an image held somewhere else).
    4. Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.
    5. After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
    6. The curators decision is final.
    7. Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
    8. If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.
    9. These rules are to be copied and pasted with the new theme by the curator at the top of the new salon thread with a finish date and time.
    10. As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer an DPNow will not use them without permission.

                Great pictures so far

I just wanted to clarify something - Kingston Technology, who have sponsored the salon for around threee years, have now decided it's time to move on, so I would like to thank Kingston for the over one hundred memory cards they have sent to Salon winners over the years. We are looking for a new sponsor and in the meantime Kingston continue to work with us and I'll be reviewing their new SSD drive shortly, plus they are providing this month's newsletter competition prizes. Until a new Salon sponsor has been signed up, I'll be providing a book from the DPNow library for Salon winners each fortnight.

                  Thanks for the heads-up Ian.

Come on you DPnow folk get your entries in for the final Kingston memory card.

Lets show those people of on the FouthThirds site that BIG things are as popular as those macro shots of insects on their Salon. Surely a mountain is more beautiful than a creepy-crawley!!

At a top of a mountain. Nobody was there but a bird. Cold so wanted to go down the mountain soon ... after carrying lots of gears. I do not know why I was there ...

Not Long now to get your entries in, there are at least a dozen photos of bugs over at FourThirds . . . at least a dozen of you must have passable mountain pictures.

Disappointing entry in terms of numbers, but not in quality. Maybe those early good ones by Barrie and Horacio scared contributors off!

I must say I enjoyed seeing all the entries and although devilgas and Mike Parr entered particularly good and atmospheric images in both cases the text is particularly distracting which ruled them out of the final cut. Autumn and Yoshi, as usual, entered very strong images and both are highly commended.

                            However, today my favourites are:

Third: OlyPaul, lovely atmospheric scene with the mountains taking the supporting role to the lake and boats.

Second: TheBull (just pipped because of the slightly messy foreground

And First: My current favourite Horacio with that beautiful stark monochrome.

Thanks for all the entries and sorry you all can't be winners as I said before all images had much to commend them and it was very difficult to separate them. On another day my choices may well have been different as during the time of the contest I veered between them depending on my current mood.

Good luck to all of you and keep up the excellent work.

                            Kurt

My apologies in not submitting an entry! In the winters I work seven days a week (in the ski industry) and I'd have loved to submit a mountain shot although nothing I have could compare with some of the beautiful entries that were submitted.
If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room.
