Now that is a lot of blue. And the white of the church in the middle of it all is just brilliant. Where is that?

Hi Life in a Lens (I really don't know your first name),

This is a photo from the Greek islands and more specifically in the island of Paros. The little chuch is located on a rock composition as you can see which is very very close to another small island like some others that are around the main island of Paros. Churches like these exist by thousands (really by thousands) in the Greek Islands. If you ever visit Greece and especially some of the Greek Islands you will see what I mean. All kind of little churces everywhere, even next to lighthouses!

Hi George, I think this is a great picture - well done!

My only nagging feeling is that where the sky meets the horizon at the left, it doesn't look natural. So I did wonder if the sky had been borrowed from another picture - nothing wrong with that, just curious. But it's a very striking picture indeed

          Hi Ian,

As I previously wrote to Andrew and Tim, the picture is natural. I haven't done any artificial work and actually I don't need to do that since in Greece the skies are almost blue most of the times.

If you are talking about sky clouds cut by the horizon line, it is because I lower much the camera (actually I hang myself slightly from the boat) in order to make the photo look taken from down to up, because I wanted to look like I took the photo just slightly above the water and avoid the look of everything looking lower than the level a normal photo would look like.

That way the lower clouds look like they are touching or being cut by the sea.
I really don't mind to say that a photo is artificial as long as it is, but this one is not (actually none of my photos posted on DPNow were ever artificial, except of the reworked version of the "Evening Island Return" where the island appeared as a background and I asked for comments in comparison to the original shot without the island).

Though I am happy of your comments and also Andrew's and Tim's because it looks that some photo views are unique, strange or rare, like the Stella Artois "hover" effect sometime ago. Generally but not very often (only when the situation permits that) I like to experiment with light and angle views.

          Regards

          George

Here is my entry taken with a 2 Mg Oly compact. We were staying in Phuket and took a half day trip to Phi Phi Island. It was beautiful.

I guess this was before the Christmas 2004 disaster?

My father lives in Thailand and we have been invited to visit - probably at the end of March, though he doesn't live near the sea as far as I know!

This is not my entry as i have entered the previosly, but My wife reminded me of this one. this was taken 13 1/2 years ago on a cheap little 35mm film camera, as you can see by the Location there was restrictions in force regarding flash etc, Im not sure if i was really aloud the camera in there. The Baby is our son nicknamed "Dinky". Do feel free to move this to another forum if you feel its should be elsewhere.

Yes, it was either 2002 or 2003. However, we were in Sri Lanka and in the Seashells Hotel, which was literally on the beach, 8 weeks before the disaster. Both Thailand and Sri Lanka rate as our all time favourite holidays. They are beautiful places and fantastic for photography.
