  • Enhanced ACR in Photoshop CS3 - short movie demo

I've just started experimenting with screen action recording so I can do software demp clips in the future.

Here is a 98 second look at the enhenced ACR (Adobe Camera RAW) interface in Photoshop CS3. It's not narrated, so don't be surprised that it's silent

Oh - and it's reduced from real size and, being a flash movie, you need an up to date flash player in your browser - also needs Javascript.

I'd be interested to know what you think of the playback quality of the clip - to small, too jerky, not clear enough? Let me know

    It's also 4MB - so not for dial-up users!

That's great - I'm impressed, honestly. It seems smooth enough to me, played it twice so I could pause once or twice to look more closely at the ACR tab deatils etc, all working nicely.

I must say I really like the look of the ACR update too. I'm always wary of beta testing though, too scared of stuffing my PC, so I'll probably wait until the upgrade is released.

Ian I'm only running a 1.4 athlon into 512 mgs ram. Your video ran perfect. No problems at all.

Thanks guys, here is another, showing the new 'slimmable' docking palette (I meant 'toolbox' of course).

This is shorter, in a 640x480 box and more compressed, making it only 400K.

        Ian

PS - I've updated the movie, see:

Adobe Photoshop comes in a variety of versions and guises and is the most popular family of photo editing packages. Seeking help or happy to provide advice on Photoshop use? Then this is the place for you.

Actually, it's the toolbox, not a 'palette' - sorry. But the toolbox does now dock with the menu bar above, which I tried to demonstrate in the movie.

However, a light grey boundary and some other neat animations are seemingly overlayed on the screen and not picked up by the recording software I'm trying, so the toolbox doesn't look docked, when it actually is.

See the screen grab below and compare with movie:

OK - I can record overlays now

Re: OK, can now display the flash movie in the forum

How about that? Just wrap your swf file url with flash and /flash tags UBB tags (inside square brackets).

At least Ian doesn't babble and narrate a 1,000,000 word voiceover (like thon R.Brown et al) when 10 words would suffice.

                          Hi Ian
As a matter of interest, are you using the the 30 day trial version of Camtasia 4, or is it one you have got in for revieing in one of your magazine articles? The only reason I ask was because I tried ou version 2 about 2years ago to make some tutorials for our U3A group and found it very good. The only drawback was the retail price which was more than I could justify for the amount that I would be able to make use of it. If one one was a paid lecturer then that would be a different story. !!

Yes, I'm using the trial version, but I'm 99% sure to buy the full licence. I had my doubts before I found how to record overlay graphics. It's a very fine piece of software. It isn't cheap, granted, at $300 or so, but worthehile for my purpose, certainly.

I also use TechSmith's SnagIt for screen grabs.
