  • Lightroom 2 queries

I have just started taking a serious look at Lightroom. I am currently exploring a trial of version 2. I'm really pleased up to now but I do have a couple of questions.

    1. How do I control the crop ratio
    i.e. if I wanted the crop to equal a 5" x 7" or 11" x 8"

    2. What is the output difference between
    'sRGB' and 'Pro Photo RGB'

    Thanks

Hi Pops, in the Develop module, click on the crop tool underneath the histogram in the right panel. Next to the padlock, which should be unlocked, there is an up/down arrow where you can choose the crop you want or in the custom section create your own.

As for the difference between sRGB and Pro Photo RGB, the latter has a much bigger gamut of colour and whilst its OK for printing, for net use you need sRGB

It may be worth noting there is a third colour space in Lightroom.
ProPhoto RGB reputed to have an even wider colour gamut.

Actually there are no printers I know of that can reproduce anywhere near the gamut of Pro Photo RGB. Same for displays. But if you are going to be manipulating the image data at the highest possible quality levels, it's best to do it in a very wide gamut and then convert to a better matched colour space for the destination outpute device (sRGB for the Web, Adobe RGB for printers, etc.).

Sometimes your camera may well exceed Adobe RGB gamut in the areas of specific colours. By editing in a super wide colour space, none of these hues are clipped, so you maintain full tonal image data.

Hi Patrick - actually this was mentioned by the OP; do you mean something else?

Thanks everybody. I'll get round to making a few test prints.
