  • Free resizing software urgently required

As I said earlier, I am in Majorca until Thursday and my friend requires a driving licence photograph. 45mm x 35mm.

As she has no photo editing software, I have downloaded Picasa3 which is very good, but I cannot see how I can precisely resize a photo I have taken of her to the above dimensions.

All the free resizing software I can see uses pixels for resizing.

Can anyone suggest any free software that will do this?

Easy Thumbnails is free and good for resizing but I can't remember if it has an option for resizing in anything other than pixels. Have a look HERE and see if it's any use for you.

Also - I just worked out some figures in CS4 for the resize you want and if you were to want a file saved at 300ppi and 45mmx35mm it works out at 531x413. I've attached a screenshot of the new file I created to get the dimensions.

Figures, pixels and dimensions do my head in so I usually create blank files and measure and test with them until I get what I want.

Is any of that any help?

Re: Free resizing software urgently required

So I eventually managed to get it to the right size and now I can`t print it!

It keeps fitting to the paper which is 4" x 6".

The printer is a HP PSC 1510. I can`t see anywhere where it will just print the exact size.

Can anyone help me? I am beginning to feel like a beginner all over again!

Audrey you do not need anything other than Picasa3 to do what you want. Open Pacasa and select the image you wish to print. Now click on TOOLS, top line next to help. In the drop down menu select options and then printing tab. Here you will see some boxes. Click on one of them and select Passport from the list. Close this lot down till you get back to your image. Click print and look at the print layout now showing and you should see passport. Select this and also select shrink to fit button. You can now print this image on any size paper you wish and it will come out passport size. Hope that helps. PS it doesn't matter what size your original image is as Pacasa will only shrink it for printing and your original stays intact.
Regards Ron. Live each day as if it was your last. One day you will be right. Down sized to Nikon s7000 compact camera.

Thanks to everyone for your speedy responses. I have now printed the image and it is attached to the driving licence!

I really feel that this forum is so good for getting results and people are so helpful. Thanks.
