1960s

Tonight I am going to take some photos of my sister and her husband, with his 1960s scooter. They would like me to make the photos as authentically 1960s-looking as possible. We've got all the props, and picked a suitable location, that doesn't have any modern distractions. Has anyone ever tried anything like this - any advice regarding the post-processing would be appreciated?

May I suggest that if you are using a PC and have Photoshop or a prog that uses Photoshop style plugins, that you download the Virtual Photographer Plugin Play around with the options, they are endless, until you find one that works. The VP plugin is absolutely brilliant and I don't know how they do it for free. Hope you will show us the result when you have finished

Brill, thanks Stephen! I'll definitely give that a go.

I've also found a helpful tutorial on how to make colours look 'retro' in Photoshop, so I'll try that too.

I'm hoping I can upload the images here, but it depends whether my sister agrees to it, or not! Hope I can persuade her.

Here we go, here's one of the images which I've played around with and tried to give the 60s' look:

Any suggestions on how I can improve upon them?

EDIT: Oops, just noticed that there are double yellow lines in the pic - these were around from 1967 onwards though, I think?

you could try adding a little noise to age the photo. or some faux creases?

i use the Kubota studio action set (photoshop plug-in). 1960's is one of them.

Bracket your shots as a lot of shots back then where underexposed so having an underexposed version as well as regular could be handy.

When processing create a B&W layer then use the opacity level adjustment on it to knock the edge of the colour a little.

Try producing some B&W images ..in photoshop maximum black setting can be nice as can using the blue filter setting.
