I recently downloaded Firefox 3.5.1, but have found that the Color Management Plug In is not compatible with FF3.5.1.

Is there any other download that would do the same job?

Colour management is built in to Firefox, and has been for three years now. You don't need a plug-in any more.

Instead, you need to enable the integral colour management, if it is not switched on. See this three year old thread for instructions on how to enable colour management in Firefox:

In FF 3.5.1 it is slightly different now. Entering gfx in the filter box is the same, but the line to alter to enable color management now reads:
      gfx.color_management user set integer 1

If the numeral at the end is 0 it means that color management is not enabled. Double click on the line, and in the pop-up box which appears, change the 0 to a 1 and click OK.

Thanks Roger, but where do I find this line to alter?

Audrey, you may find that it's already enabled by default, as you'd been using the add-on with your previous version. I was using the add-on too and when I upgraded FF the colour management was already enabled.

Anyway - to check your own ...

type about:config in the adress bar (as described in the link Ian posted)

That'll take you to a warning window asking if you're sure you want to go ahead

click ok to the warning window and a long list of technical blurb will appear.

Scroll down the list and you'll find one entry that says gfx.colour_ management mode (and that's the line that should have the 1 setting.

I'm attaching a screenshot from my own

Hope that helps. I also hope someone else will butt in if I said anything wrong (I can be an ace technical wuss)

Thanks Pol. I must have missed Ian's post this morning, I just saw Roger's.

Mine was showing "2", I have now altered it to "1".

            Thanks everyone.

Do the 'about:config' bit Audrey, and accept the warning. The 'about:config' listing will appear, and right at the top of the page is a filter box.
Type gfx in this box. About five or six lines will appear, and probably the second one down will be the color management setting which must finish with a 1

Roger did you see my post above yours? They must have crossed, like Ian's and mine this morning.

Mine was reading "2" but now it is "1". Is that OK? The "2" was default, not "0".

                  Re: Firefox 3.5.1

                  Hi Audrey,

Yes, it's getting more and more complicated now isn't it!

In FF3.5.1 in the gfx line 0 = disabled; 1 = enabled; and 2 is at the moment not used but it was in some earlier FFs. It is all to do with ICC profiles. In FF3.5.1 only an ICC 2 profile is used where previously ICC 2 and ICC 4 were enabled. ICC 2 will show all colour in TAGGED images correctly, but will not show the correct colours of an image if some of these colours are called up in a CSS sheet. Unless you are doing web site work this should not be a problem.

There is an add-on reputed to enable true colour management from HERE but I haven't tried it myself.

                      Re: Firefox 3.5.1

I seem to have opened a can of worms once again.

I think I will leave it with the "1" setting.

The link to the add on appears to be for an earlier FF version than I have downloaded, so I'm sticking with what I have done for the time being. Thanks.
