  • DxO V5.0.4 Online...

...if anyone's interested. A bit more support for Nikon users (with significantly more to come at the end of the month) but they pulled the Canon EOS 1Ds MKIII module from this release as it wasn't up to scratch apparently.

Nice to see the update is only 90MB rather than the usual requirement to do a full download at 290MB. News of a new demo / trial release too, even if you've already had one and it's expired.

Let's hope this release irons out a few more gremlins! They really should have released previous versions as beta, they've lost a fair bit of goodwill by releasing too early (IMHO) if the posts in their forum are anything to go by.

      Re: DxO V5.0.4 Online...

Not yet Stephen, I lifted this off one of their posts on the forum:

"Our current plans are to release a public-Beta of DxO Optics Pro v5 for Macintosh on our website in the second half of February (the current schedule is for February 20th but this can still change). The public-beta will allow Macintosh users to experience the advances of version 5 (new RAW conversion, new Noise reduction, dust & blemish removal, new interface, etc…). The public beta will also support the Canon 40D, Nikon D300 and we are hoping the Canon EOS 1D MKIII and Nikon D3 cameras. Beyond providing a preview of the final version 5 for Macintosh, the public Beta will also allow us to gather a large amount of end-user feedback before the final release. The final release date of DxO Optics Pro v5 for Macintosh will depend on the outcome of the public-beta program but is currently anticipated to be in early spring 2008."

Looks like they don't want a repeat of the stick they've got over the windows version!

Interestingly the quote above was from a post dated Jan 17th and they made no mention of it in todays windows update announcement.

Despite all the grief and frustration I've experienced over the last 2 - 3 months I still rate the product and thinks it's worth a look. Couple more point releases and it'll be as reliable as V4.5 was.
