Resetting a dialogue box in Photoshop

There is no obvious 'undo' option when altering a setting in an Adobe Photoshop dialogue box. You might be experimenting with the effect of changing a setting in the Levels dialogue, for example. How do you reset the setting to what it was? The answer: CTRL+Z. Try it for yourself!

But there is a way to make a 'Reset' button appear in a lot of dialogue boxes!
Hold down the 'Alt' key and the 'Cancel' button turns into a 'Reset' button.

One of my favourite PhotoShop tips:
If you are working in an image with a lot of objects on different layers, it's easy to loose track of what is on what layer, even if you look at the thumb nails.

Point at the object you want to know about and right click (or control click on a Mac) and a pop out menu appears of all the layers.

All these dialogue boxes have a 'Cancel', but if you hold down the ALT key and hover your mouse over it, the Cancel changes to Reset. I click that and it also "Undoes".

I think CTRL+Z would be quicker though.
