    Steven,

Would you suggest Adobe photoshop for someone just starting out with a photography business?

I don't think I'd put it above having a good camera and the ability to use it to take great photographs.

If what you need is a good general purpose image editor, for altering levels, colour, contrast, for cropping, resizing and a host of other everyday tasks that most editors will do, then there are many much cheaper alternatives.

If you want to buy such a program now, then Adobe Elements would perhaps be a cheaper alternative, also the new Lightroom takes some beating now, but its a different sort of beast to Elements, PS and similar.

In business you need to see a return on investment in order to justify the expenditure

Stephen has summed it up, but I would add one comment, if you have to ask the question then may be you are not ready to go into photography as a business. I'm not trying to be rude here, its just that with sufficient experiance a decision of this sort would be fairly easy to make depending on the type of work that is being accepted.

That said Lightroom would be my first port of call as a start.

          Hello Patrick and Steven,

I already have Adobe photoshop elements. Even with that I still prefer some of my other editing programs. I highly value your opinions Steven, and I was wondering at what level ( definitely not now ) should I upgrade. I guess I should have asked my question in that format originally. When I go out on one of my photo shoots I shoot lots (250+) .Some days I take more and some days I take less pictures.I DO set out to take a picture that needs the least amount " work" possible, of course isin't that what we all do?I am already selling my photographs in different forms.I have yet to consider it a business because I have no website and In my own personal opinion I have alot of "growing " to do. As for Camera's I recently Upgraded to a Cannon EOS Rebel XTi . I am still learning about it and all of its controls for I only have had it a few days. I am never upset or offended by others comments or opinions on this site especially if I ask for them! So I hope this explains things enough for you so that you all understand.
