  • Photoshop v Capture1

I've just been amazed by the difference between 2 pieces of software doing the same task. I was trying to see the time it took for Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop and Phase Ones Capture1 to batch process 100 Raw files into high quality jpegs. Both progs have processed the same folder of 100 Raw files.

Adobe Camera Raw took 4 mins and 40 secs.
    Capture 1 took 14 mins

I must try and get hold of Lightroom and see how that compares.

Anyway, just thought I would share that little gem with you

You'll be impressed with all the other features of LR Stephen even if the raw conversion is only the normal ACR. I've been using all the betas, and am now on Version 1.0. I would be surprised if many of the users of the 30 day trial don't buy it.

I have downloaded lightroom and like the way it works. I have seen somewhere that cs3 will have a lot of things in it that lightroom has. I know if you have cs2 you can download a free trial of that as well so you can see which is best.

This is very true Tom, but there are plenty Pros swear by C1, though maybe the Pro version is faster, I don't know.
Actually, for anyone thats interested, you can get a copy of Capture 1 by buying any Sandisk extreme III card. Thats how I got mine

At present I'm evaluating Lightroom, it really does feel and work better than the Beta version I remember. I think it will be on my list to buy very soon

As an update to the timings mentioned in my first post, I've done the same exercise using Lightroom. The result was even better 3min 40 secs for the 100 files. 25% faster Fantastic!!

I have CS3 and I find it's a ram hog. I was editing some pictures and noticed that my laptop wasn't running very well. Went to the task manager and found out that CS3 was using over 300 megs of memory..

Is that normal for anyone that uses PS CS3?
