  • Urgent help required

I have been asked to print an A4 and 6 smaller photographs from the attached scanned photo from a camera phone.

It is required by the mother of the chap on the left whose 18th birthday is imminent and she wishes to make a collage of his photos through the years. ATM the pop star on the right is his idol!

I have tried unsuccessfully to get rid of the blue tint and I wonder if anyone can help me before I print it. I would have liked to balance all the colours, but haven't enough knowledge.

    The original file size is 3576 x 2736, 600 dpi, 28M.

Can anyone help me to get the best out of this please?

I am going out for a few hours now but will be in later today.

Thanks in anticipation, I would be very grateful.

    Hi Audrey,
Here is a very quick conversion to mono, I am not at my personal computer as I am at the moment in the local library killing time while I wait to collect my son from his saturday club, So I have no access to image software, this was done in M_Soft Publisher so quality is not good but it does show that the image would work in mono, I will have a go if I can later on when I get home. Or perhaps some of our resident experts will be able to help.

I reckon the quickest, easiest way of correcting the blue tint would be to run it through 'Filtersim' - which is a small freeware set of filter simulators. You can download it from HERE - scroll down and d/l the 'filtersim.zip'

Simply open the programme, which is tiny but very efficient. Load the image and go through the filters to see which one suits the job best.

Once you've corrected the colour tint you can save it as a new file then do any other tweaks, cureves, contrast etc in PS.

I'm attaching one I did in less than a second, using the 03 Kodak Wratten (a yellow filter).

      Hope that helps.

        Best I could do

        Elements 2: Enhance>colour correction, then Enhance>adjust colour>colour variations>decrease blue.

Not an easy one Audrey, tweaked in ACR for white balance and tint, then in Photoshop for colour balance. Still not too good I'm afraid.

Here is a quick try....can't do much more without the original photo. I used Pictocolor's CorrectPhoto followed by the PS filter Kodak Roc.

                    Re: Urgent help required

Firstly let me thank you all for your speedy response. I realise what a difficult a difficult task it was.

I downloaded them all and viewed them one after another and the smoothest one was Ron's.

I also thought the two mono images looked good. I may print a couple in mono.

Now what I should like to know Ron is How did you do it?

Anyway I uploaded Ron's image and cropped it 10 x 8 and it increased the size to almost the size of the original file. So I just put a frame on and have printed it.

Another thing I tried with my own file, and that was PS auto colour. It worked quite well for the colour but was not as smooth as Ron's even though I used Neat Image.

Once again thank you all. I shall download that file Pol.

Hi Audrey, are you telling us that you have taken Rons edit posted here in 800x600 form, and upsized to a print quality 10x8 size and printed it

Well yes. I tried it and it seemed to work.

Bear in mind that the original scan was 3576 x 2736 x 600 res. I then reduced it for DPNow to 800 x 640 (but it looks as though the res was still 600).

After Ron had done the adjustments, I just uploaded it again then remembered it would be too small to print 10 x 8.

Anyway, I wasn't sure how to upsize it. In fact I was hoping Ron would tell me how he did it so that I could alter the original scan. In the mean time, I thought I would just try the crop tool.

I had a preset crop 10 x 8 @ 300 ppi and just ran it from corner to corner - it was the same size as the image I was viewing; I then double clicked it to accept it. I looked at the Image Size and it was now 3000 x 2400 x 300 which is the size of a 10 x 8 print.

So by using the preset crop on a 800 x 640 x 600 res it became 3000 x 2400 x 300 (which is what the preset crop was).

I have printed it and it is as good as I could expect from the original.

Well done Audrey, lowering the dpi will increase the size. Glad it worked out OK. No point explaining how I did it unless you have the same editing package. There are no layers or mask in my prog. so Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro users would gain nothing from my instructions.
