I have come to believe that I know nothing about photography, not just here (on occasions) but also at our Photographic Society.

I am sorry Jon, but this picture does absolutely nothing for me. The only thing I see in focus is the handrail. The uprights are not straight and the whole thing is to me, blurred and does not light my fire.

I know I am being controversial and other members will see something there which I cannot. I don't really like to search for a photograph. I need it to hit me in the face and I am sorry Jon, but on this occasion it doesn't.

With regard to whether I think the DOF is too tight, it really depends upon what you are wanting to achieve (IMHO).

I also think that you should know that I do not have a lot of photographic technical knowledge, therefore, do not take too much notice of my opinion - remember it is only my opinion.

    Keep posting.

I must admit this one doesn't grab me. I can't help wondering what it's all about.

What strikes me (as not quite right) is that the figure appears to be looking over to the left of the image - yet the only part that's in focus is part of what I assume to be a handrail at the bottom right corner.

To my mind - it might have been better if there'd been something of interest in focus with the figure looking towards that object ...... if you see what I'm trying to say.

There's just not enough information coming across imho so perhaps the dof is a tad too shallow.

I should also add - I'm certainly no expert on these things, my husband is my mentor so the comments are our joint opinion after some discussion between us.

I can see where the others are coming from, but I do like this one. There is something rather refined about the out of focus area and the focused area leads one to the mysteriously blurred silhouette. I don't think it's a fantastic picture, but I do like it.

          Hi Jon,

I see your point. This is abstract B&W photography that works both ways in terms of DOF (either blurred foreground and clear background or clear foreground and blurred background). The DOF is almost OK and I say almost because in these type of photos when humans involved the DOF should be at that level that while keeps silhouettes blurred allows at least identification of human gender. In this photo I cannot personally distinguish if that person on the bridge is male or female.
So my main concern is what I already wrote about silhouette's identification and less of the scenery.

          Regards

Sorry but it doesn't appeal to me. Way to dark for my taste.
