  • Something Different

    Hi Guys,

This was inspired by Andrew Thatcher, with his post for the Saloon Comp.

I Though that I want to Give something like that a Try,

I Overexposed to get the Extreme white,

Please Give me your Feedback on this ?

Would This still count as a Photograph ? or Art ?

    Thanks Lou

I'd say it was Photographic Art. Its definately a photograph in its source, andit can be argued you have made it into something else more artistic by adding the graphic feel. Quite effective and appropriate if I may say so.

I would however like to see more contrast to the image, making the blacks somewhat blacker

I had The Black on the dot (ooooo) But then decided to go for a little lighter,
I just never thought of trying anything like this before.

I can live with the black in the graphic, but would like to see a little more contrast in the faces perhaps. I'll have a go my self and post back if I may

OK, well here's a quick attempt using Photoshop. I actually burnt in using a soft burn brush set to low tolerance (10ish) this gave a little more detail in the texture of the face. Then using Curves,I use a gentle S curve to add the required contrast.

You may not have PS and I've forgotten if you ever mentioned what you use. This should be possible in most photo software but perhaps using a slightly different route

BTW, I forgot to mention that unless your monitor is set up correctly it may be you are seeing the images diferent to me. Always a problem when talking about colour, contrast and brightness on forums

Yeah, i don't have the best of Screens, and I know what different or Decent Screen can Do to a Image.

Thanks For your input, I do have Photoshop 7 but I have never Actually used it,
So that is a Total new Field for me.

My advice would be to use and get used to using one program for all your manipulation. In my early days, when I used PS 4 I made a concious decision to dump all others and concentrate on Photoshop only. The best decision I made, ............. except buying a Canon 1DMk2N Much more recently though

                    Hi,
I admire your determination and experimentation, Your images are not that bad either, I used Paint shop Pro 8 for a while but now use Photoshop 7 which I find more intuative and easier to navigate for basics, and very powerful indeed, a steep learning curve no doubt but well worth it in the long run.
Try to read as much as you can and use the training videos available from various sources, they make life a lot easier, far less frustrateing and a lot more fun. As you already know the folks on here are only to willing to help and advise as well. The idea is to experiment and practice. I know I have improved a little and have no doubt you will too.
                    Good luck

                      Hi Lou,

I would say that this is an artistic creation effect from photo(s) manipulation. Indeed I find the necessity of adding contrast for the black to look blacker.
If you want to get better whites in your photos try this, it might work:
If your camera has a contrast adjustment, decrease the contrast slightly or by steps (whichever are the options your camera offers). You may also experience with this adjustment slightly better edge definition on borders or textures.

                      Regards

                      George

I feel all humble not much to add to the photo as Stephen has ironed out the kinks for you. Good job on the image.

                          Great idea and very artistic.
My twopenneth ... the man's head seems to dome a bit to much giving the impression of baldness.
The women is showing a few strands, just thought that might work for the man as well.

Agreed, This two people posing, where not to Pleased with me, but I nagged them.. So I got a Quick once of Shot,

I will later find myself some willing "models" to try different things.

I just Really love the effect, and a lot of water should go into the sea, before I could produce something as Awesome and Spectacular as "Andrew Thatcher's"

                            Thanks For the Replies.
