  • Photoshop composite

I'm going to be upfront from the start, and admit that this is a Photoshop composite. This is the image that prompted me to ask the question about ethics in the 'general discussion' section of the forum. It started off life as two separate images, which were of different sizes and colours. I've combined them in Photoshop, more as an experiment to see if I could do it than anything else.

What do you think? My own thought is that I should have flipped the fly in flight around to face the other way.

Here are the original separate photos, for comparison:

    Re: Photoshop composite

I personally don't see any ethical issue with this image, especially with the content. I also think you have done a great job in blending the two shots. However to me the picture has now become a bit of an anomaly. You have one side view and one top view of the hoverflies, and I'm not sure this is correct in reality. In short I feel if we are to do such things, we need to keep it real

That's a fair point, Stephen. The photos were both taken from the same angle - the hoverfly was perched on the ivy at an angle. I see what you mean, though. It does look a bit odd.

        Re: Photoshop composite

These things opperate in 3D space unlike us, so it seems a bit odd but isn't really.

You can't see the joins, the background colour matching is very good, in short I think you have done a good job. Had you not said a word I doubt it would have been questioned.

As this is in the "critique" area, I will just say that the top LHS is a distraction that when I scroll it out of the frame, the image improves. You may want to use a tight crop to emphasize the "macro" effect.

Some may comment on the subject "moving out of the frame" so you may want to play with flipping it. If you are going to manipulate then why not go to town.

        Cheers
        Graham
