Comments and critique welcome. I would like to hear opinions on the inclusion of the power lines.
The photo was taken late afternoon at the end of a long trek and I thought isn't great what a nice evening can do for landfill site.

Hi Tom,
I know that these powerlines in that height carry very high voltage in the scale of Megawatts. We got them here in Greece too.
I think the inclusion of these powerlines in the specific photo were to be avoided simply because they are not totally clear (being hided by the clouds partially) so their effect on the photo is on the negative side. At least if they were totaly clear I would say it is just OK. Anyway they can be taken off easy with some pot processing.
Though I want to focus on another part of the picture that I personally consider more important that is:
I observe some nice mirroring of the land on the water , but it is partially cut towards the favor of the sky. In my opinion this is a fatal mistake, not interms of human action, but in terms of natural enviroment. I say "fatal" just because it is more rare for all of us to get pictures with nice mirroring on a totaly calm water.
I think you should have taken the photo showing all the mirroring of the land on the water and cut part of the sky to the favor of mirroring.
The strong point of that photo, is not the sky, is not the cables but instead it is the mirroring which is partially ruined in the favor of the other two.
Of course, I'm always expressing personal opinion and while you have asked for critique of the cable lines, I thought it would be constructive too, to go a little further and speak of what is the main point according to my opinion of course of the specific picture.

Hi Tom,
Yes I think I would clone out the power lines, it detracts somewhat from that awesome sky.
I honestly believe that George must be looking at a different picture, (each to their own though of course! )to me that composition is superb.
I believe that the strong point is the way in which the cloud is hanging menacingly around the hills, and casting the shadow. I also feel there is a nice balance between the sky and land.
I do think a little more detail could be brought out from the bank though, as some parts of the picture are a little dark, maybe a little tweek with the levels, and or the shadow/highlight tool.

In actual fact George The water has hardly been cut at all. There was no more visible from my position on the roadside: it was just a small drain and I cut a tiny amount from the bottom because it was all unsightly weeds.
Personally I would prefer it without the power lines but I wanted to hear other opinions; I spoke to others on another forum on this subject and some had the idea that they should be left as they are part of the real scene and are not too in your face if you know what I mean. Hence my curiousity.
I attach the original (complete with evidence of dirty sensor )
Many thanks George

Hi Tom,
I didn't know about the small drain in front of you. I thought you had enough water in front of you but you were carried away by the sky, the clouds and the powerlines. In this case disregard my comments about "fatal" mistake.
My new comments now:
I would prefer the shot without the powerlines or at least not in the direction they are. If the were perpendicular to the frame, I wouldn't mind and probably they wuld have some nice additive effect.
I still believe though that the strong point of the photo is the mirroring.
Clouds and shadows of clouds exist in almost all scenic photos in different variations but they are generally common objects. Their best effect is when sunsets are photographed, but this shot is not actually a sunset.
Mirroring of something and especially in calm water, I think is more rare to find and more interesting to hunt for it
Many thanks Ben. I had tweaked the bank but perhaps a little more is required. It was a strange type of evening with the colour and light in the sky and a dullish sort of landscape. I also agree about the wires.
Hi Tom,
I would clone out the power lines, But I personaly woul elimenate the water as well, in my opinion it does nothing for the image, although the composition is good. I would probably edit and make the image more menacing, as the foreground landscape can hardly be considered as beautiful," as your title suggests". I do like the distant hills though.
