  • Tall Skinny Decaf Latte

Inspired by a series of images of hands, I thought I'd try something I've not done before.

I like this image. I like the way it's composed, with the knuckles forming the 'front point' of the overall shape of the picci. It's neat the way the wrist, the arm and the cup go backwards from the tip of the knuckle. A sort of trianglular composition ... if you follow my drift.

I think maybe it might benefit from a slight tweak of the contrasts. I did a quick 'auto contrast' with it in Photoshop and that brightened things up slightly. It also brought out more detail in the hand imo - brighter skin and better definition of the skin folds and creases.

I'm not too sure about the blue sleeve either. You'll have to get yerself a red one or a black one to match the cup.

    Good picci though.

      Hi Graham -

I like photographing hands myself and yours is not too bad an image (i'm still getting there though). Is that steam or a reflection of your arm to the right of the mug?

        Hi Graham,
For me there is something disturbing about the composition. Maybe it is the diembodied hand - no connection in the background. Pol has some good points about the knuckles. A crop from the left so that a line through the knuckles place the upper left hand corner would solve my problem, as the hand would not be complete and my imagination would connect it to something. It is fun to try and figure out why an image deosn't feel right, when otherwise it is a good image.
