  • Trying something new

    Dear All,

Trying my hand at something new critique welcomed. Moved away from landscapes and urban shots today, however by the time I got out the light was a little low so tried to make the most of it.

    Best regards

    Josh

      Hi Josh

I like the angle and the mono effect of this image. It is powerful and would look good mounted on a black background. The starburst effect on the lights work well. I know there is a lot that cannot be seen but it's an "In your face" pic and I like it.

Here is a similar one of mine, but this was an accident. I was taking a sunrise and we were at 10,000ft and we were freezing. Tripod all set up and this car came round the corner. Of course I got others without the car, but I thought it added interest.

        Hi Josh

        Nice effort indeed.

On first look I thought a crop would make a difference but I tried that and it didnt work.

        I like it.

I'm always looking for new and "Different" approaches to photography and here is just such an example. You haven't said if this is "in-camera" or "post processed" and while "interesting" isn't that important.

The end result is a good example of what you set out to achieve. Being rendered as it is the cars lines are lost to the background and this will upset many who want to see this aspect of the subject. But it's no different to when you take a detail shot and the rest of the car is simply not there, you have chosen to show it this way.

I'd like to see the gap in the trees cloned in to remove the distraction on the roof line and would like to see the outline of the RH mirror to give balance to the form of the car. There is also a bit of free floating RH rear of the car that needs to be attached to the rest of the car or removed.

With any image like this always look at what your eyes are drawn to that is away from what you want to portray.

Certianly a style of image to have great fun with and develop.

              Thnaks all,

And special thanks to Graham. Very very useful feedback which has given me lots of direction of thought. Much appreciated.

              Best Regards

PS it was mostly in camera work with a little bit of tweaking in lightroom

Here is the one with Tulips I mentioned. Not with 5d 2 but with LX3. I think the WB is off a little, too warm

Seriously - I really like the mono first shot, although it doesn't look like an Aston Martin in that particular view.
