  • Lady in the pillars

    Dear All,

Would appreciate your help developing my photographic eye. Which one of these pictures do you think is best, no crop or crop and why.

I really have problems deciding stuff like this and want to understand how others approach similar issues so that I can make a more confident judgment next time.

    best regards

    Josh

I prefer the first image. Have you tried cropping out the first pillar which is blurred and is a distraction? Gez.

i prefer the first. it gives me a good sense of her evironment, but the excellent dof keeps it at a distance.

First for me - Second seems "claustrophobic" with nowehere for the subject to go. She seems to be trapped between two close parallel lines.

(I like the B and W treatment, BTW)

        Regards,

          Re: Lady in the pillars

Josh, now that I come to comment, the first version is missing. However it seemed to me that the lady was too central in the composition, and rather than crop from the right, I would have cropped from the left and remove the oof pillar. This still gives space on the right and a more pleasing composition IMHO. As has been mentioned cropping from the right makes it feel somewhat claustrophobic

First one is better but Gez and Stephen hit the nail on the head re the first pillar.
