Re: Colour of B & W?
I like the colour version very much! The colours of the moss/seaweed, barnacles & rotting wood etc add character & sense of age to the image! The one on the right looks like an old skeleton that has been bared to the elements to silently decay! It reminds me of a wild animals carcass left on the plains, its bones picked by the jackals & vultures!Jocelyn

Re: Colour of B & W?
I too like the colours of decay, especially the rust.
All to often we are shown colours that are oversaturated and the use of HDR is becoming overdone (there are exceptions that are a "style" in themselves)
This has subtle colours that I feel far better represent the atmosphere of the image.

Re: Colour of B & W?
why not combine the best of both? copy the color into memory, and then gray scale and high contrast the original. return to RGB color and apply a new layer copy, reduce the opacity to taste and erase any distractions such as the sky.
for more warmth, repeat but adjust color balance (ala sepia tone) before select coloring.

Re: Colour of B & W?
since this was posted in "critique" i'm going to take the liberty of showing my take of this. i feel that a wreck should be presented with despair rather than sunshine. again. IMPACT tells a story. i sharpened the lines, reduced some distractions (there was a knot in the line where i cut it) used select color, mildly, and boosted the sky.
