    Hi all.

I'd like some feedback on these two please. If you want the exif please let me know.

    Re: Misty River

    Hi Gina,

Of the two I prefer the second one. I think the gulls make the first shot rather too busy and that doesn't quite gel with the misty river atmosphere. I think the second has a more moody feel but the area with the railings is too prominent. Perhaps some selective burning to tone down that area (that does not really hold any interest) would make a more balanced image.

Gina, I like your first image, particularly the framing or border effect! I do feel however that you could make the foreground slightly darker on either side, thus highlighting the light in the middle! By applying a vignette effect or by dodge & burn!

          Hi Gina

The first image I am not sure what you want the viewer to look at no real point of interest too many ducks, and the border overwhelms the whole picture, emphasising still more this lack of a point of interest.

The second picture is an altogether different proposition. We have a small single point of interest that single duck, very important to the picture.
We also have mood and lots of it. I think I would loose or narrow that black border and lighten the picture a small amount not much, otherwise much of that wonderful mood could be lost.

Borders added to pictures are trimmings to help enhance the picture, by making them bold & dominant they take over and distract from the picture

          My opinion only of course.

I've taken Vernon's advice (thank you) and selectively burned the area of the railings to make it less obvious, is this better?

                  Gina Hi!
Have you tried selectively blurring the rails...with a little guassian!

I belong to a club that has only just started showing Digitally Projected Images and your 1st picture is idealy suited to that format (and on-line).

The frame you have applied is very effective in concentrating the viewers eyes. However having done this I think you should have gone further and cloned out the gulls that are in the frame on the RHS and also the two "bits" on the RHS (looks like a fence and some floating wood) That way the "Frame" is simply that and less of an extension of the image.

As for the image itself being "busy", that is exactly what Gulls are, and by composing them in this way you have correctly portrayed the "nature" of the creatures in their environment.

The second image has the opposite quality of "stillness" that is again exhibited by gulls. Here you have captured the moment that portrays an early morning moment that relaxes the viewer. There are a few minor distractions that could be cloned out that I think would improve the image, but that is entirely your choice.

Thanks for showing these, they are both good images.

                        Hi Gina,

That's just what I had in mind. You've kept the detail but lost the eye grabing brightness.
