A poignant reminder Mike, however don't you feel the stone is a little 'flat' Wouldn't it be nice with a little bit of that sunlight across it that we see behind. It could perhaps be beefed up a bit if you tried increasing the contrast, maybe tried a bit of toning, nothing too arty, just a little punch

These images are always very thought provoking and this is a lovely stone and a nice shot.
Personally I think a crop off the top and left, eliminating that strong sun bit alltogether would bring the stone off center and improve the composition, plus of course the little lift it needs as outlined by Stephen.

Yes it is certainly a reminder that we are very lucky today, but as an image in its own right it is very flat/shadows blocked up, and requires some punch.

            Hi Mike
You English speaking has another saying too - those the god;s love die young.
very nice B&W and txture, but I would crop off some of the grovestones on the left and place the tombstone more on a 1/5 from the left, not a 1/3.
Selective cropping can enhance the visual impact quite a lot, as will a bit of playing with brightness/contrast or exposure or saturation in PS.

Ian if and when possible, it would be a neat feature in this forum to allow a workshop. Then one could download the image to ones PC, do the adjustments like the saturation and crop, then post it as a workshop, and then all could compare. Just a suggestion for the future.
            Regards
            Callie

Hey Callie, that's what we're doing with the Photo Fix challenge, but moving it to the forum sounds like a really good idea

I agree too. Good suggestion Callie! That's the sort of thing I also had in mind when I first suggested what became the "Software tools" forum.

It would be good to have a place for 'fixing' and tweaking' to enhance a picture, make it pop then describing the methods used. I mean a place for discussing and learning ..... not a place for making a composite or creating a graphical cartoon type image from a photograph.

I mean 'practical skills in the digital darkroom' ... the sort of thing Danny does so well.

                Hope that makes sense.

Great, this is prcisely what I meant, a digital darkroom, because I sure can still do with a lot of tuition and leaning in PSCSII. Masks are aparrently THE magic thing to use with layers, so I read and hear, but I know ziltch, this feature would be very nice where a lot of us could learn and maybe teach.
As far as showing or indicating a crop, certain sites have a "note" that allows you to draw a block border line that the apears on the piture if you move your mouse over it, but the block should be able to move outside the frame of the picture and rotate, like one can do in PS, because often a crop is "needed" outside the current boundaries of a photograph.

What a brilliant idea, I too could do with some tuition as I am only just getting into digital and need all the help I can get.
