Not quite what I expected Pol. I am still laughing.

Seriously, though, what a wonderfully exposed photograph and just look at the grain on that sand (no pun intended)

I always wanted to photograph sand in heaps showing the shadows. I once saw some on the beach near Bamburgh Castle, but these were sculptures. I hadn't got my camera with me then and I have never seen anything as good since.

Well spotted, but I would have walked passed it.

Pol already knows my feeling about this picture. To recap though, I LOVE it.

What is it though that makes it such a winner, well for me at least. It must be to do with the colours and textures. The blue of the bottle contrasts well with the sand. The rough battered texture of the bottle with the smooth granular feel of the sand.

The lighting is superb, almost artificial as though done in the studio. Then of course in the top left corner are those pebbles which seem to make the image and remind us again where it is, on the beach.

              Hi Pol
Just proves that subjects don't have to be 'photogenic' to make a great photograph.

Many thanks for the responses so far. Much appreciated.

The objects left or washed up on beaches get more and more fascinating for me. It all started after I became fascinated with "The Living Beach" from Rich Mason. in addition to some of the work from DJN and JW.

It's amazing just how 'alive' the beaches are, what interesting objects and plantlife can be found. It's also fascinating to see how the lighting and the sand shifts, never the same twice, never still for more than a few seconds.

                  Hi Pol,
When I first looked at this series it gave me a fresh and nice surprise. You have a good eye for finding something photogenic and/or for turning something ordinally into something special at least in the photograply world.
I like the words you mentioned in the above.

                    Hi Pol,
I had to smile, you certainly have a nack for a good title as well as a good photo. How do you protect your camera on the beach? I wont take mine on since I got one ruined around 10 years ago because it was windy, never gave it a thought at the time but around a week later the camera was useless.

I simply don't take the camera on the beach on more windy days. It's rarely without any breeze, but there are times when it's more manageable. Also times when the tide has just gone out so the sand is still quite damp and not prone to blowing about. I always use a protective filter on beaches too.

The new Pentax K10D is weather sealed and I'd quite like to have one eventually. If I do get one, it would probably take ages before I could get used to the idea it would probably be ok on a beach.

There are also several shingle beaches along the Channel costline - so they're more suitable on wilder days.
