  • Jacana Mugshot

A bird that is very difficult to expose correctly, really a nightmare, most of the times. However, as much as photographers tell you that you need sunshine, certain birds just come to the party better dressed in muted, overcast lighting conditions, making it easier for the camera to record their true colours, This Jacana being one of these instances.

The head design looks like someone sewed a patch on.
    Certainly a colourful character.

Great picture, and your right sometimes we need cloudy conditions.

Good enough but not up to the same standard as your kingfishers - no twinkle in the eye for a start but I admire you for not cheating here and doing an edit in photoshop which is so easy these days.

Why did you choose to shoot the head only - its such a fascinating bird with its weird huge webbed feet giving it the apparent ability to walk on water (or more accurately on water plants)

Have just seen the pic in your gallery of the whole bird - much prefer that shot although I can see the lighting conditions were difficult to work with.
